Yesterday Ben Cooper and I attended a customer acquisition forum hosted by Technology Crossover Ventures (one of PayDay One’s investors). It was a meeting of marketing executives from TCV portfolio and partner companies including Netflix, eHarmony, Orbitz, eBags, Zillow, Fandango, WhitePages.com, and a few others. The list of attendees was both impressive and humbling.
The objective of the forum was to share ideas and best practices for acquiring customers. I gave a presentation on direct mail (click the thumnail below to see my opening slide with an attempt at humor) and other attendees gave presentations on SEM, SEO, social media marketing, email, and multivariate testing.
I normally shy away from conferences and networking events because they tend to be thin on useful content. More often than not, the presentations are thinly veiled product pitches from vendors. This event was very different. It was an open, honest discussion among peers and I took away several learnings that will move the needle in my business. Definitely the best event of it’s kind I’ve ever attended.
A big thanks to David and Katie at TCV for coordinating the event.
