Today there were rumors that Texas A&M was going to buy out Dennis Franchione’s contract and fire him mid-season. But then A&M released a statement saying that the are going to evaluate Francione after the season is over.
Francione is going to be fired — there’s no question about that. After all, he’s racked up 26 losses in his 5 seasons at A&M, with more coming before the season ends. By comparison, Mac Brown has just 9 losses in the same period. Even RC Slocum had fewer losses (22) in his last 5 seasons. But the ugliest stat of all is Francione’s 2-12 record against Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma.
Even though I’m a UT alum, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Aggies. I grew up in College Station and have been to more games at Kyle Field than most A&M graduates. The Aggies have some of the best fans anywhere and football is everything to them. They deserve better.
