The Other El Capitan

When most people — especially rock climbers — hear the words “El Capitan” they think of the 3000′ granite cliff in Yosemite National Park.  But Texas has its own El Capitan, an ancient limestone reef in West Texas.

I recently ran across a reference to an article in the March 1972 issue of Climbing about the first ascent of the lesser-known El Cap.  So I called the magazine and they were kind enough to send me a copy of the article.  Click on the link below to download it.  Unfortunately, it sounds like a pretty miserable climb…
