OK, I’ll admit it. I’ve seen all 94 episodes of Sex and the City. Call it a guilty pleasure — It was a fun show with smart writing.
Tonight, Megan and I saw the movie. It’s received universally bad reviews and scores a dismal 54% on the Tomatometer. But it was panned for the precisely the reason that most fans will love it — the movie is essentially another season of the show packed into two and a half hours. It certainly didn’t break any new ground, but it was worth our $14 (plus $45 for the babysitter).
Film Critic Ethan Alter sums it up best:
“Neither a classic for all time nor a [disaster], Sex and the City is the very definition of a decent summer blockbuster–entertaining and entirely disposable.“
